Mongla Port handled 25,250 TEUs of containers between July 2025 and 15 April 2026 — more than the 21,456 TEUs it handled in the entire 2024-25 fiscal year — according to port officials quoted by the state news agency BSS and published by The Financial Express on 22 April 2026.

Senior Deputy Manager Md Makruzzaman told BSS that 699 foreign commercial ships called at the port in the period, including 39 container vessels and 22 car carriers, and that 9,160 reconditioned vehicles were imported through Mongla. Cargo handling in the period reached about 10.82 million tonnes, the report said.

The port authority has also opened three operational anchor berths in the Hiron Point area following trials with 9-metre-draught ships. The berths can take vessels up to 200 metres long with a 9-metre draught.

Mongla’s main imports include food grains, fertiliser, vehicles and LPG; exports include shrimp, jute and frozen food.
