Switzerland-based Medlog, a subsidiary of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), formally began operating the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal (PICT) in Keraniganj near Dhaka on 17 January 2026, under a 22-year concession signed with the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) in November 2025.
Speaking as chief guest at the inauguration, then Shipping Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain said the restart opened a “new horizon” in the country’s port management, BSS reported. He said the government’s aim was to turn a long loss-making facility into a profitable one through professional management. The terminal was built for about Tk 155 crore and had incurred losses for a decade.
Medlog Bangladesh managing director ATM Anisul Millat told The Financial Express that the company was working on a package to cut costs for users by about 50 per cent, using barges between Chattogram and Pangaon to avoid the congested highway. He said import rates for a 20-foot container from Chattogram to Dhaka would fall from $324 to $190, subject to new freight rates. PICT has an annual capacity of 116,000 TEUs, a 180-metre jetty and a yard for about 3,500 TEUs.
Former BGMEA president Faruque Hassan welcomed the move and suggested more frequent barge services on the route.
