Private inland container depots (ICDs) in Chattogram raised several container handling and transport charges by 9.85 per cent with effect from 21 September 2026, The Business Standard reported.
The Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association (BICDA) announced the increase in a circular signed by Secretary General Ruhul Amin Sikder. It followed a 17.4 per cent rise in the price of diesel, from Tk115 to Tk135 a litre, effective the same day. BICDA said the surcharge covers “higher operating costs for fuel-dependent activities” at private depots.
The surcharge applies to empty container transport between the port or Patenga Container Terminal and ICDs, lift-on/lift-off of empty containers, export stuffing and handling, export weighing for verified gross mass (VGM), and import delivery. BICDA told member depots to notify their clients.
Private off-docks handle all of Bangladesh’s export containers and a growing list of import goods, so their tariffs feed directly into exporters’ logistics costs.
