The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has lowered the revenue target for Benapole Custom House to Tk 105.88 billion for the current fiscal year, Tk 7.02 billion below the previous target, bdnews24.com reported on 23 July 2026.

Benapole was tasked with collecting Tk 112.9 billion in fiscal 2025-26 but collected Tk 65.59 billion, a shortfall of Tk 47.31 billion. Customs officials said they had uncovered 130 fraud incidents at the port over the previous six months, and 57 people, including customs, port and security personnel and traders, had been charged in four cases over alleged smuggling of goods worth nearly Tk 200 million.

Assistant Commissioner Rahat Hossain said officials were working to boost collections and were enforcing penalties. Benapole Import-Export Association vice-president Aminul Huq said meeting the target depends on more imports, transparency and curbing irregularities; traders told the outlet that current trade curbs would also need to be lifted.
