The Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued 13 fishermen whose boat lost engine power in the deep sea south of Saint Martin’s Island, the Dhaka Tribune reported on 29 September 2026.

The boat, FV Rifat, had left Teknaf on 25 September. Its engine broke down around 4pm on Monday as it was returning to port, and it began to drift. One of the fishermen called the Coast Guard emergency hotline, 16111, and a Coast Guard vessel found the disabled boat about 12 nautical miles south of Saint Martin’s. Coast Guard media officer Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the rescue.

Fishermen in distress at sea can reach the Coast Guard on 16111.
