Construction of five riverine patrol vessels (RPVs) for the Bangladesh Coast Guard has begun at Dockyard and Engineering Works (DEW) Limited, a Bangladesh Navy-operated shipyard, using local technology, BSS reported on 17 June 2026, citing an ISPR release.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Monzur Morshed Chowdhury was chief guest at the keel-laying ceremony, and Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Md Ziaul Haque was special guest. The project is being carried out under the government’s “Made in Bangladesh” policy.
Each vessel will be 38.5 metres long, 7.9 metres wide and 2.45 metres deep, with a displacement of 232 tonnes and a top speed of 25 mph, according to the release. They will carry navigation radar, GPS, modern communications and night-vision systems, and are intended for maritime security, surveillance, anti-smuggling, counter-terrorism and search-and-rescue in shallow river waters.
