Bangladesh and China signed a framework agreement worth RMB 1.67 billion (about Tk 24.86 billion) on 8 February 2026 to procure four new vessels for the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC), The Financial Express reported, citing UNB.
The vessels are two crude oil tankers, one mother tanker and one mother bunker carrier. The deal was signed by Economic Relations Division Secretary Md Shahriar Kader Siddique and Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen. Financing is a concessional loan at 2 per cent interest with a 20-year repayment period including a five-year grace period; a loan agreement between the ERD and the Export-Import Bank of China was to follow.
The government said the ships would boost BSC’s crude oil transport capacity and contribute “in the long run to strengthening the country’s energy security”.
