MT Omera Liberty, an Aframax oil tanker described as the largest newly built vessel registered under the Bangladeshi flag, was due to begin its maiden voyage on 31 March 2026, The Financial Express reported.

The 250-metre tanker can carry up to 115,000 tonnes of fuel oil. It is owned by MJL Bangladesh PLC, a concern of East Coast Group, and was built by Daehan Shipbuilding of South Korea, where it was commissioned on 25 March. BRAC Bank provided a $95.77 million foreign-currency offshore term loan for two Aframax tankers, Omera Liberty and Omera Galaxy, which the report called the largest single-ticket loan of its kind by a local private bank in the sector.

The commissioning was attended by East Coast Group chairman Azam J Chowdhury, Daehan Shipbuilding chairman David Kim, Bangladesh’s ambassador to South Korea Toufiqul Islam and MJL Shipping CEO Captain Minhazur Reza Chowdhury. BRAC Bank managing director Tareq Refat Ullah Khan said the bank was proud to finance the “largest Bangladeshi-flagged oil tanker”. The report did not state the vessel’s first route.
