International. Hanwha Defense USA has signed a $269 million contract with Tote Services to build a medium landing ship for the US Navy at Philly Shipyard, Reuters reported on 1 November 2026 from Seoul.
The vessel will be 100 metres long and 2,687 tons, intended for operations in disputed waters including the Indo-Pacific. Hanwha said it is the first order since the South Korean group acquired the Philadelphia shipyard in December 2024.
The deal reflects Korean shipbuilders’ growing role in the US market, at a time when Chinese yards dominate commercial newbuilding orders.
