The US Navy mine countermeasures ship USS Warrior (MCM-10) has reached Chattogram Port to join the Bangladesh Navy for this year’s Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise.
The vessel arrived on 1 November and was welcomed by Major Carsten Fletcher, the acting US defence attaché. CARAT Bangladesh 2026 runs from 2 to 6 November.
What the exercise is for
CARAT is a long-running series of bilateral exercises the US Navy holds with partner navies in South and Southeast Asia. Mara Bird, acting spokesperson of the US Mission in Dhaka, said the drills reflect Washington’s commitment to working with Bangladesh’s armed forces on shared maritime security concerns and to deepening the partnership between the two countries.
Mine countermeasures ships like Warrior are designed to find and clear sea mines, a skill set relevant to keeping busy approaches such as the Chattogram channel safe for shipping.
