Twenty-four members of the Bangladesh Navy left Dhaka early on Thursday, 5 November, to serve for three years with Qatar’s Coast and Border Security Department (QCBSD), according to the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).
Their role
Working under QCBSD, which comes under Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, the team will help secure Qatar’s coastline and maritime borders. Their duties include:
- maritime patrols
- search and rescue
- preventing smuggling
- other coastal and sea-border security tasks
Before they left, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) Rear Admiral Golam Sadeq briefed the team and urged them to serve with professionalism, discipline and dedication.
A long-running partnership
The Bangladesh Navy has sent personnel to QCBSD regularly since 2012. ISPR said Bangladeshi sailors have earned the trust and praise of Qatari authorities through their skill and professionalism. The latest deployment is expected to deepen defence and security cooperation between the two countries, open opportunities to share professional experience, and add to Bangladesh’s remittance inflows.
