APM Terminals has unveiled the layout of its $550 million Laldia Container Terminal at Chattogram, which it describes as Bangladesh’s first fully foreign-invested container terminal, The Business Standard reported on 30 July 2026.

The company signed a 30-year public-private partnership concession with the Chittagong Port Authority on 17 November 2025. The terminal is designed to handle more than 800,000 TEUs a year, about a 23 per cent increase in the port’s container capacity, and ships of up to 6,000 TEUs, against a current practical limit of about 2,700 TEUs.

Plans include a 613-metre quay with a 10.5-metre draught, seven ship-to-shore cranes, 32 electrified rubber-tyred gantry cranes and 41 electric terminal tractors. Construction is expected to start by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals, with full operation targeted for 2030. “We plan to start at the earliest possible date,” said Romesh David, CEO of APM Terminals Laldia. Chittagong Chamber president Amirul Haque said the terminal would significantly enhance handling capacity.
