State-owned Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) completed its first-ever resale ship purchases in late 2025, buying two ultramax bulk carriers for a combined $76.7 million, Maritime Gateway reported on 12 November 2025, citing shipbrokers.

Both are 63,700-deadweight-tonne ships built by Jingjiang Nanyang Shipbuilding in China. One, Banglar Progoti (formerly XCL Gemini), had been delivered at the time of the report. The purchases followed record earnings, and the report said BSC planned to grow its fleet to 10 vessels by mid-2026 under a government-backed renewal programme. The company once operated more than 40 ships.

Feeder container plans

BSC has also been working towards a return to container shipping. In February 2025, Seatrade Maritime reported that the Planning Commission had approved $359 million for six 2,500–3,000 TEU feeder ships, with deliveries expected in 2027 and 2028 and Korean export credit expected to cover most of the cost. Readers should note that these reports pre-date this article; we will update the story as new fleet announcements are confirmed.
