Bangladesh signed a $335.78 million (RMB 2.404 billion, about Tk 3,592.90 crore) loan with the Export-Import Bank of China on 10 October 2026 to build two container terminals and associated container and cargo-handling yards at Mongla port, Maritime Gateway reported.

The agreement was signed by Alia Meher, joint secretary of the Economic Relations Division, and Fengjun Tian, assistant general manager of China Exim Bank. The loan carries 2 per cent interest and a 20-year repayment period including a five-year grace period.

The project costs Tk 4,068.23 crore in total, with Tk 475.33 crore from the Bangladesh government, and was approved by ECNEC in February 2025. The Mongla Port Authority is targeting completion in December 2028. A separate project financed by India’s Exim Bank, worth about $530 million, is also under way at the port.
