The Bangladesh-flagged bulk carrier MV Banglar Joyjatra crossed the Strait of Hormuz at 3am Bangladesh time on 23 June 2026, ending around four and a half months held in the Gulf, according to a Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) press release reported by The Business Standard. All 31 Bangladeshi crew members were reported safe.
The 2018-built ship, with a deadweight of 38,894 tonnes, entered Middle Eastern waters on 26 January under a Singapore-based charter, BSC said. After discharging steel coils at Jebel Ali, it loaded about 37,000 tonnes of fertiliser at Ras Al Khair in Saudi Arabia for South Africa, but transit permission was denied in April. BSC said the ship stayed on hire throughout and that crew received additional allowances.
In early March, TBS reported that more than 100 Bangladeshi seafarers were stranded on at least six vessels in and around the Strait of Hormuz, including Banglar Joyjatra, following the outbreak of the regional conflict. The vessel was heading to Fujairah for bunkering and hull cleaning after its transit.
