Khulna Shipyard, the Navy-supervised state-owned yard, launched LCT-101 — the first of three Landing Craft Tanks being built for the Bangladesh Navy — at a ceremony led by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan in January 2026, according to a BSS report published by the shipyard.
Each LCT is designed to carry six tanks, 12 armoured personnel carriers or 18 military vehicles. Their primary role is supporting joint Army–Navy amphibious operations in coastal areas; in peacetime they are intended for disaster management, humanitarian relief and rescue work.
The vessels are being built with domestic capability and technical support from Canada’s VARD Marine design firm. A second craft, LCT-102, was launched afterwards, Bangladesh Military Forces reported.
