Saint Martin’s Island, Bangladesh’s only coral island, will reopen to tourists from 1 November 2026 to 15 March 2027 under new restrictions, bdnews24.com reported on 25 October.
The decisions were taken at an inter-ministerial meeting on 12 October chaired by Environment Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo, and the ministry issued final instructions on 25 October. Average daily visitors must not exceed 3,500, and each visitor will pay a Tk 100 environmental conservation fee, managed by the Department of Environment under the Environment Conservation Rules, 2006.
Authorised tourist vessels will continue to run from Nuniyachhara jetty in Cox’s Bazar. BIWTA and the Department of Shipping must obtain prior environment ministry approval before authorising vessels on the route, and all earlier conservation directives remain in force.
