Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam said on 21 February 2026 that the management of Mongla port will see “radical changes” within 180 days, UNB reported from Bagerhat.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the port, the minister said Mongla is part of the government’s 180-day priority action plan and that he hoped for visible change within six months. Existing problems would be identified and discussed with the Prime Minister, he said.
He said the government plans to centre import and export activity around Mongla, which would “soon become a full-fledged and effective port” if it could use its full capacity, and that there would be no development disparity between Chattogram and Mongla. Asked about suspended development agreements with some neighbouring countries, he said they would be reviewed with the national interest as the top priority.
