UNDP Bangladesh scheduled an accelerator session titled “A Circular Blue Economy: Bangladesh as a South Asian Pioneer” at the World Circular Economy Forum 2026 (WCEF2026) on 17 September in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India, according to UNDP’s event page. The forum, organised by Finland’s Sitra and India’s Central Pollution Control Board, ran from 15 to 18 September.
The session was framed around Bangladesh’s shift from linear marine extraction to a circular blue economy, in the context of post-LDC graduation and climate vulnerability. Focus sectors listed by UNDP were sustainable aquaculture, coastal resilience, ship breaking, transport, energy and marine bio-valorisation, with discussion of greening export supply chains, blended finance, blue carbon and fisheries management.
UNDP cited a government target of $1 billion in fisheries export earnings by 2030 and the inclusion of the blue economy, with a dedicated Blue Economy Research Fund, in the country’s growth plan. Speakers listed included Dr SM Zobaidul Kabir of the Planning Commission and Dr Mohammad Mahmudul Islam of Sylhet Agricultural University.
