The United States has lowered its reciprocal tariff on Bangladeshi goods from 20 per cent to 19 per cent under a bilateral agreement signed in Washington DC on 9 February 2026, the Dhaka Tribune reported, citing commerce ministry sources.
Certain apparel made with cotton and synthetic fibre imported from the US will receive zero reciprocal tariff, according to the report. The deal was signed by Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin and National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman for Bangladesh and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. It takes effect once both countries issue formal notifications.
The tariff was announced at 37 per cent on 2 April 2025 and cut to 20 per cent in August 2025 after about nine months of talks. Khalilur Rahman said the zero-duty benefit for certain textile and garment products would bring “new momentum” to the sector. The US is Bangladesh’s largest single export market.
