Bids have been invited for the expansion of the Benapole land port, including a parking yard, warehouse sheds, modern chemical godowns and other ancillary facilities, according to a tender notice published on 17 September 2026 by Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), which tracks international procurement.
The works are financed by the World Bank (IBRD) under the “Accelerating Transport and Trade Connectivity in Eastern South Asia – Bangladesh Phase 1” project (reference P176549). The bid deadline is 2 November 2026. The notice does not state the contract value.
Benapole, opposite India’s Petrapole, is Bangladesh’s busiest land port. Traders quoted in local media have repeatedly cited inadequate facilities and long truck waiting times as reasons why trade and customs revenue at the port have fallen short of targets.
